First edition Second Printing - Tropic of Capricorn by Henry Miller (Grove Press 1961). Though published in France in 1939, Tropic of Capricorn, the semi-autobiographical companion to Miller's earlier novel, Tropic of Cancer, was banned in the US until the 1960s for its "explicit sexual content." Some copies were smuggled in as contraband; in France, Obelisk Press received numerous charges for pornography. It was not until 1961, after nearly 30 years, that the Justice Department allowed the novel's US publication. This Grove Press Second Printing is a rare edition of that American masterpiece, still in its original dustjacket.
Condition: Great. Hardcover. Dustjacket: slight creasing, tears, wrinkling. Foxing interior covers. Previous owner's sticker on interior front cover.
