This soft-soled all leather shoe is based most closely on a shoe dated to the 14th century that was found in Dordrecht in the western Netherlands, though many other examples of this type also exist, and is a great style to go with a variety of medieval and renaissance outfits.
This medieval shoe is made of a supple 5 oz black buying cowhide. For the comfort of modern wearers, I have added an additional 3mm thick leather insole to aid in protecting feet from the numerous sharp and pointy objects present in the modern world. This additionally serves to increase the durability of the shoe. I don't feel that this takes away from the historic character of these shoes, while offering customers a more user friendly and durable product.
Please keep in mind when choosing a size that, unlike modern shoes, all leather turnshoes such as these will gradually stretch in length over time so if in between sizes it is best to go with the smaller size - for example the model in the photos wears a 2.5 in modern shoes but would wear a 2 in these.
