About coins
The Roman empire was a superpower that left an everlasting impact on today's society. The Romans traded their goods using coins, however, the greeks were the first to mint coins around 600BC. If you buy one of these coins you buy an authentic piece of Roman history.

About the seller
My name is Lex I am a coin expert in Greek and Roman coins. I value, identify and authenticate Roman and Greek coins. I sell coins as a hobby and want to share my passion with the world. The coins I offer are all personally authenticated by me, the coins originate from old collections formed in the 1940s-1980s.

What is an authentic Roman coin?
All Roman coins have an obverse and a reverse. On the obverse, the current emperor is featured, with their name in text around them. The reverse can show all kinds of imagery, such as gods, temples, and soldiers. See the video on this listing for a 360° view of a coin.

Information about the Roman denarius
The Roman Denarius was first introduced in the Roman Republic around 211BC. The Denarius became a monetary standard, becoming one of the most minted coins in the empire, Julius Caesar was the first Roman leader to feature his face on a denarius. Normally only deities had the honor of being represented on coinage. Augustus (Octavianus) was the first Roman emperor and made his own monetary system (see image 2). His system was based on two factors, the senate, and the emperor. The emperor was in charge of minting coins in precious metals whilst the senate was in charge of minting bronze coins. The emperor featured themselves on their coins during their reign. So for example a denarius of Emperor Commodus was struck during the reign of Commodus. Soon it became popular to include wives and family on coinage. Emperors minted coins of their wives or female relatives on coinage, including the Denarius. The denarius saw its downfall around 211AD being replaced with the Antoninianus.
