From England comes this magnificent, vintage signed MIRACLE ruby rhinestone and striated and mottled glass stone studded brooch. It is believed to be 1970's era.
This Celtic brooch in the penannular design. A true pennaular had a closed circle while the pseudo-penannular had an open circle with both having a moveable pin. This large and heavy brooch was important during the early medieval period in Ireland and Britain. It was worn on the shoulder by men and on the breast by women. The pin of the brooch was worn pointing up. There was an ancient Irish law that stated that the wearer of the pin could not be held responsible for injury to another if the pin was not too long and it was worn in the correct place on the body. Contemporary Miracle pennanulars have a stationary pin.
"It is in the Irish Isle and the Northern and Western rims of Britain that the heritage of the Celts has endured. These are the lands the Romans did not conquer or where they failed to implant their own culture. In the far West the Celtic culture continued to flourish. Their artistic ability and fine craftsmanship are shown in their Ornamental and Metal work. After the fall of buying Rome, Celtic culture flowed back into many regions of Western Britain, where their art and traditions have been faithfully maintained." from Sol d' Or

The “Sol D'Or" (sun of gold) mark is found on some Miracle jewelry. The mark belongs to the Solvar company of Dublin though Miracle manufactured most of this jewelry. It was distributed in Ireland.
In 1946, the A. Hill & Company Ltd. began producing Miracle jewelry in Birmingham, England. The designs were taken from original Celtic, Irish, Scottish, Anglo-Saxon and Viking jewelry. On some pieces the back is decorated with inscription as well as the front. Miracle has always produced a high quality and innovative product, however, it has recently been acquired by the British St. Justin jewelry company. It is not clear whether or not St. Justin will continue the Miracle line.
