Astley's 109 Jermyn Street Tudor Rose Billiard (1)/ London, England/ MINT
Astley's was a brand and buying name of a famous London, England tobacconist, founded in 1862 and located at 109 Jermyn Street, just down the road from the Charatan's shop. The shop closed some time ago, and the name of the brand was bought by Mordechai Ezrati, who also owns the James Upshall pipe brand.
Heres' a smaller, mint condition, Astley's Tudor Rose Billiard shaped pipe that is near featherweight at a mere 1. 15 ounces. Draft hole is center and a hare's breath above the bottom of the chamber. Chamber interior is very sound and clean. There is an effortless draw. Tenon to mortise union is sound, snug and flush. Vulcanite stem is a crisp jet black, bearing no marks. Pipe does not accept a filter. Pipe weighs only 1. 15 ounces (32.8 grams) No fills. No handling marks. Pipe passes a cleaner with ease.
