Large Light Aqua Blue Caribbean Calcite/Aragonite Polished buying Freeform with Cave

Beautiful polished blue calcite freeform from Balochistan, Pakistan.

This material has been known to contain a mix of both calcite and aragonite--both minerals have the chemical formula of calcium carbonate, but have different atomic structures (known as polymorphs). Depending on the pressure and temperature, calcium carbonate may prefer to arrange itself either as aragonite or calcite, and over time one may convert to the other if the conditions in temperature and pressure change.

Although it is mined in Pakistan this material goes by "Caribbean" calcite due to the ethereal light aqua blue colour, reminiscent of a pristine tropical beach.

Calcite in its pure form (CaC03) is clear or white. Most sources agree that the blue colour in blue calcite is caused by natural ionizing radiation, such as gamma rays.

Specific piece measures approximately 13.5x6.5x4 cm, 800 g. This piece can rest on its back as well as stand up on its own~

This material is soft and there may be slight chips/nicks in the polishing, as well as natural rough spots. All photos were taken inside under a buying white LED light and have not been edited for light or colour.

The blue shows up on camera slightly more vibrant than in person! Keep in mind that in different lighting/indoor lighting the colours may vary.
