Mini Roadrunner from Santa Clara Pueblo
This is an energetic Santa Clara mini blackware roadrunner figurine. This was traditionally fired & smoked in the syle of Santa Clara; this Pueblo is famous for their blackware pottery. It was made by husband and wife team Paul and Dorothy Gutierrez, who lived in Santa Clara Pueblo. It measures approx 2.25" H x 2.5" L x 1.5" D. His body is all in polished black. Paul and Dorothy Gutierrez had a long collaboration making small clay buying animals and mudheads for decades. Dorothy handbuilt the animals of native clay, and Paul stone polished each piece. They were married in1965. Dorothy is of a Navajo heritage (b.1940). Paul, was from Santa Clara Pueblo (1936-2017.) They earned numerous awards including: Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show, Santa Fe Indian Market, Heard Museum Guild Indian Art Fair & Market and the Gallup Intertribal.
