These outstanding sets of Christian Prayer beads belong to our Heritage Collection.

Each set was handcrafted using 10 mm, round, multi-gem, faceted beads. For the Invitatory and Cruciform beads, larger, 14 mm multi-gem, faceted beads were selected. Eight millimetre faceted beads were used for the Resurrection bead. Each set is finished with a larger, brass cross that compliments these truly beautiful sets.

Protestant Prayer Beads

For millennia, people of all faiths have been using beads to assist them in prayer. It is estimated that about 4 billion people around the world today use prayer beads as a prayer aid. Among Christians, this ancient prayer practice fell into disuse among Protestants after the Reformation. In the 1980's, a group of Episcopalians in Texas desired to reclaim this ancient practice, and developed the format of buying beads we know today as Protestant Prayer Beads.

Anglican, or Protestant, prayer beads start with a pendant, usually a Cross. We pause here to acknowledge Christ's presence. At the next bead, called the Invitatory bead, we recall that it is God Himself who invites us into prayer. When you spread out the beads, notice that there are four large beads that form a cross. These are called ‘Cruciform beads.' Between each of these large 4 large beads are 7 smaller beads, called ‘Weeks beads.' Altogether, there are 33 beads, to represent the number of years that Christ lived on earth. (On some sets, a 34th bead-called the Resurrection bead- has been added to remind us that the Living Christ remains with us).

There is no set way to use Protestant prayer beads; it is completely up to you how you pray with them. You may simply hold them as you pray or read Scripture. As you move your fingers along your set, stopping at each bead, you may find that this tactile aid helps you to be more fully present.
You can use your beads to provide structure for your prayer; one common way is to use the first set of 7 beads to praise God, the second, to confess your sins, the third, to offer your prayer concerns, and the fourth for thanksgiving.
You can easily pray liturgical or other traditional prayers throughout the Church year on your beads. Or you may use your prayer beads as you repeat a Psalm, the Lord's Prayer, a Celtic Prayer, the Angus Dei, the Serenity Prayer, or The Jesus Prayer (“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner)”. As you pray with your beads, I believe that you will find yourself settling down from the busyness of daily life and entering into the quiet place of encounter with God.

As a Christian Spiritual Director, I invite my directees to use prayer beads, and I hope that these beads enrich your prayer times with God, too.

FaithCraftStudio uses high quality beads. Your prayer beads will arrive in an organza bag and include a diagram of the beads and some sample prayers you can use with your beads.
