Here is a rare Lewis & Clark Expedition novel from Sacagawea's viewpoint: Star of the West by Ethel Hueston. 1st edition from 1935, this book tells American history/ herstory in a somewhat romanticized way...in fact, the sub-title of the book is 'The Romance of the Lewis and Clark Expedition'.
Few copies of this book remain, though I was told it was a bestseller in its day. As stated in the foreword, (pictures 5 and 6), the author went to great lengths to tell an authentic story, and her approach of telling as much of it from Sacagawea's perspective is unusual (for the times, at the very least) and commendable. Of course she took artistic license in imagining Sacagawea's thoughts and feelings, and of course there has been new information in the buying last 85 years, rendering some of what Hueston wrote inaccurate. Still...a great book for the history buff, Lewis and Clark fan, or anyone who likes their history lesson with a little romance (not a love story, and certainly not a 'bodice-ripper' I assure you ;-)
In good to very good vintage condition, clean pages. Cover has a few 'bumps'. Some discoloration of the endpapers Still, a beautiful, mellow, well-worn copy of a rare and interesting book.
