Buying Katalox Wood Wand || Wooden Wand

Real wood wand make from Mexican katalox wood, about 13 3/4" or 35Cm long, finished with Danish oil and a couple of layer of wax polish. The inspiration for this design was taken from animal horns, with Elder Futhark runes added to the handle area and running just over 1/4 the way up the length (see below for details). You will get the exact wand in the picture! Finished with Danish oil and wax on top.

The runes on this design are set into four groups of four, reading (going upwards):

I can replace these runes with other runes or letters on request, so long as they are a comparable length or less, although I will need to charge for this based on complexity - at most $40, likely less depending on length/difficulty. A simple 3 letter name would be easy, a long sentence less so. Unfortunately this is not as simply as writing or carving them in place, since all my designs are made on computer first and carved on my home made carving machine (see below), and for these runes I need to create each individual line as part of a 3d sketch and manually position them in exactly the right place on the surface of the 3d model. And then ensure they carve correctly, with the toolhead at the correct angle. Not a trivial process!!!

-----Wood
Katalox is a really interesting hardwood from Mexico, that has only recently become available on the market. It is dense, exceptionally strong, and hold details very well. It varies from dark brown, almost black, to a kind of pinkish brown. I have only recently started working with it and information is hard to come by, but from what I have observed, the wood is likely to get darker over time, as the freshly cut wood is significantly lighter than if it has been left for a couple of weeks. This is not uncommon for certain woods, and is caused by an oxidation reaction under UV light. Before finishing this wand, I left it for a while to let the colours change, so this process may have completed, but it would not surprise me if the wood turned darker in future months or years.

This depends entirely on import customs departments and typically varies between countries from a week to a month. Time to the US is typically is 10 days to 2 weeks, but can also vary. If you buy a single wand from me, it will be sent without tracking, although this is available at checkout as an optional upgrade. If you buy more than one wand, I'll upgrade to tracked for you. All UK orders will be 1st class untracked.

-----About my work!
I designed these wands and make them on my computer controlled buying carving machine, which allows me to make shapes and designs that would not be possible to do by hand. The machine in question was completely designed and built by myself, from the ground up. This was a *massive* project. But in the end, it means that I can test and tweak my designs until they are exactly where I want them, giving me the ability to make wands that are the highest possible quality.
