This undoubtedly German fireplace looks so close to a Schoenhut it is hard to tell the difference. If you have Patty Cooper's 'Schoenhut Dollhouse Furniture 1928-1934' (a Blurb book, www.blurb.com) this one is shown on page 50, on the left. Probably made somewhere in the late 1920's.
The brick paper is intact, and wraps around to the front of the fireplace. The hearth is intact as well.
Really, a beautiful piece.
I bought this to hold a spot in my Schoenhut house until a regulation Schoenhut fireplace came along- and it did. So! You can buy this to hold a spot, too! Or use it in a house with German furniture, or TynieToy or Wisconsin for that matter. It is a good size for all of those.
