This is a small sized vintage filigree clamper buying style hinged cuff bracelet with safety chain and glass stones. It measures 6.5 inches (measurement taken from inside the bracelet) around. The gap inside measures 2.25" X 2". It weighs .8oz (23g). I have been told by a certified jewelry appraiser in a casual viewing that it tests positive for platiunum wash but is NOT solid platinum and the weight of the wash itself cannot be measured. This person also visually dated it to the 1930's, but it could be from any time between the 1920's-1940's. This item has never been cleaned and does not tarnish. It has a delicate and intricate pattern of dots, flowers and hearts. It is decorated with 3 clear glass gems, 3 brownish-amber and 2 blue ones. PLEASE READ There is one tiny clear glass stone missing from a small heart that is not noticed when the bracelet is worn. The clamper mechanism is activated by pushing in on two buttons at the same time on both sides of the opening where the very simple safety chain and spring ring clasp is located. Please be aware this piece is rigid and has no "play". You will want to measure the wrist of the wearer to ensure it will fit without rubbing. It is also important to measure the hand across the knuckles at the widest part, as the bracelet only opens to a maximum width of 2.5".
This lovely piece would have been owned by my grandmother Charlotte. I became intrigued by it when discovering its untarnished state in a box of other silver items that were all darkened with age. When viewed with a jewelry loupe it's true beauty is revealed, as are hidden very small places where the wash has been worn and the base metal is revealed, which appears to be a copper color. I cannot guarantee the makeup of this base metal though as it has not been tested. I can detect no marks or initials. I am continually amazed by the intricate detail of items made in bygone times. For example, along both narrow edges is a repeating design that cannot be appreciated with the naked eye! The missing glass stone in a tiny heart is not easy to notice in my opinion, and I have only recently discovered this imperfection. I hope that this gorgeous example of early 20th century costume jewelry with again grace the delicate wrist of a lover of fine craftsmanship.
