This item is a Native coil basket, made with traditional weaving techniques using contemporary materials such as wool yarns woven around cotton rope.
This gorgeous basket is 5.5 inches high by 5.5 inches wide. The wool yarn is a variegated mix of colors ranging from a teal blue, moving through violet and into a buying bronze brown, and adorned with beads and my signature coil handle. This piece is a great size for gifting or keeping for yourself! Wonderful for a small niche or surface, and perfect for storing your treasures or just a lovely bit of sculpture to admire! The tightness of the weave makes the basket structure very solid and sturdy, yet absolutely unbreakable so safe around children and pets. To clean, use the upholstery attachment of your vacuum cleaner to keep it dust-free.
My baskets are unique works of art that are created organically as I begin the first coil. I may have the seed of an idea, but as I work, Spirit works through me and the design takes shape. No two are ever exactly the same. My inspiration comes from many places - from the high desert of New Mexico, the California coast, and even the beaches in Florida. Coil weaving has been a way for me to honor my heritage as a member of the White Earth tribe of Minnesota, and carry Native weaving traditions into the future. Thank you for vising my store. I welcome any questions you might have!
