An entomological study of the Emperor Moth (Saturnia pavonia)

This is an unframed giclée print of the original artwork which was made with fineliner, watercolour, pencil and gouache.

The Emperor Moth is one of the largest moths to be found in the UK. The male (pictured) is the smaller of the two sexes and displays gorgeous warm colours of brown and orange compared to the grey-blue tones of the female. Although fairly common in Britain, I haven't come across one myself and so wanted to honour a drawing to this species and buying hope others will fall in love with their regal splendor as much as I have.

This illustration is one of 8 pieces of work making up my new collection, ‘Insectarium'. This collection of entomological studies showcases a number of different insect species native to the UK and aims to shine a light on the increasing pressure their populations are under.

Size: 16.1" x 11.8" ( 42 cms x 29.8 cms)
Paper: Somerset Enhanced Velvet 255gsm.

This is a limited edition run of 100 giclée prints from my original illustration. The paper is of high quality and has a lovely soft and subtle texture. It is a bright white which sets off the deep colours and details found within the drawing, similar to the original. Once printed, each edition is hand embellished by gouache gold, signed and numbered by myself and includes a Certificate of Authenticity.

The original was made by the repetitive placement of small fur-like lines, a time consuming technique which helps create the overall background pattern and provides a sense of movement and fluidity to the piece.

You will also receive a small sample of flower seeds for free to plant! This is to encourage new growth and build our green spaces around the UK in order to support our pollinators and other wildlife!

-----------

The illustration will be posted in a hard backed envelope so no damages should occur. International orders will take longer, so please keep this in mind when purchasing. Postal disruptions do occur from time to time with strikes, bad weather conditions and bank holidays which can affect the delivery time of your order which are factors unfortunately out of my control.
