This is S.O.S. - It portrays how important the individual is to lead by example in making progressive change, even when the world appears to be burning around you.

Every piece is infinitely unique by the nature of her chosen artistic buying method: each individual symbol + character, every stamp you see is placed one-by-one. No block presses or large sheet stamps: hyper-individuality.

Willow starts her creative process by carving the small symbol stamps (such as the "fire" and "girl" ones on this piece) and arranging the lettering stamps, testing and refining, then prepares for the actual piece.

She takes a sheet of 30cm x 30cm Khadi cotton rag paper (320gsm) and frames it off with masking tape. After marking where the centre of the square is, she starts stamping. Usually starting with the symbols and finishing with the text, the combination of the deep black and shimmering gold Japanese archival ink create striking statements out of simple choices. Finally, peeling back the tape from the edges reveals the bold framing and subtle height difference in the paper itself as some of the cotton rag is peeled away with this technique to achieve this subtle layering.
