I come across old oval frames and they often feature portraits of "instant relatives". This frame is quite old, probably from the 1850 - 1890 period, possibly earlier, and it is solid wood. Dark wood stain on the wood of the frame, and the frame looks like it is made of walnut. Gilded trim buying on the inside of the frame, which is the oval light-colored piece you can see in the last photo, and this could be removed. Much of the gilding has worn away and the fillet has some imperfections and waviness that would be solved with a tightly mounted backer. The frame has one small aesthetic problem, almost like a strip of tape took off the walnut finish which you can see in photo 7, but the frame is in good structural condition. It maintains its integrity, strength, and the frame is ready to accept new art or photo or mirror and offer you decades more of useful and highly decorative life. Comes with glass but no backer board. The frame measures about 13 7/8" long by 11 7/8" wide by 1 3/4" deep. The inside opening indent on the back can accept an 8" by 10" piece of art, and the oval opening is about 10 1/4" high by 8 1/4" wide. In fair condition, with the kind of wear and dings and dents and small imperfections you would expect from something 100 to 150 years old.
