Handmade Shaving Scuttle - Mega #3 Ivory
Handmade by me in my workshop in Warwickshire, England
Steve Woodhead Studio Pottery - signed SW
Please note this is a big scuttle (see dimensions below) and the postage reflects the size and weight.... I ship at cost.
I have been making handmade shaving pots for around 10 years now. My original designs were developed with the help of shavers from around the world. Since then, further refinements have been made making them some of the best shaving pots in the world.
I throw each shaving scuttle individually on the potter's wheel, they are not industrially slip cast -see image of me in the workshop. Whilst each item starts with the same weight of clay they do differ slightly in height and width which adds to the individuality of the piece.
The lather bowl incorporates throwing rings, with a deep spiral in the base continuing up the wall - see image, creating a soapy lather with the shaving brush. Pouring hot water into the outer jug keeps the soapy lather warm, you can also re-heat in the microwave if you want. buying Feedback from shavers indicates that the scuttle keeps the lather hot for at least 10 minutes.
The scuttle has a large handle with thumb grip, which makes it is easy to hold while keeping the bowl in your hand and producing very fine lather for your shave.
Note: this is a single piece scuttle in that the lather bowl and outer jug are joined together.
All my work is dishwasher friendly, and my domestic ware has rattled around our dishwasher for the past 10 years without incidence.
