'Lizette and Her Mission' is a charming novel focusing on the book's titular character Lizette Ravensworth, and her adventures over the moor... Written by prolific children's author Emma Marshall, this is just one of over 200 books she wrote, many through financial necessity after her husband lost the family fortune and accrued large debts in the 1870s - now there's a novel in itself!

The book features a deep red bookcloth hardcover with a black and blue printed decorative design of flowers and swags on the front, with the book title and author's name in gold, while the rear cover is plain. The spine however, is the true star of the show with a beautiful, opulent and ornate panel design predominantly in gold with red and blue flowers, leaves and decorations. The title, author's name and the publisher, James Nisbet & Co, also feature. The condition of the cover and spine is excellent, with very mild shelfwear to the corners and spine ends. The spine is strong and the binding remains firm and secure.

Inside, the end papers are intact to both front and rear, with a prize plate pasted inside the front cover detailing the book's award to Winifred Jones at Elswick Road School in Hartlepool in 1913. The end papers are somewhat aged, with light foxing and discolouration. There is a monochrome frontispiece opposite the title page, along with other illustrations scattered throughout the text. There is no publication date listed, but the book was first published in 1895 and the prize plate's inscription indicates this copy to be dated no later than 1913. The main text pages are moderately yellowed with very minor marks and foxing, and no loose pages. A beautifully bound edition in excellent condition, which would look gorgeous on any bookcase.
