Celtic Gaelic Design Brooch Purple Stone Signed Scotland Silver Knot Work

ITEM: A sweet brooch in heavy silver plate, signed Scotland, featuring a faceted amethyst glass stone. The silver mount features that over/under line work typical of Celtic knot work with cut throughs adding an almost spiders web vibe to it! The large, prong set and open back, glass stone sparkles like crazy with its faceted cushion cut showing a floral shape when the light hits just right. The color is a pale amethyst purple of a tone once referred to as “Rose de France”. The stone sitting well up in a high profile design. The pin back is a sturdy built in with rollover safety clasp in working order. The stamp reads simply: Scotland and is legible with block lettering. No other marks noted. This Scottish Cloak Brooch is a more contemporary vintage piece that likely dates to the late 70s through 80s and may have been a souvenir piece since I believe export would have been hallmarked. But Im certainly not an expert on exportation marks from Scotland, so its a guess more than a statement. One thing is for sure; between the Celtic/Gaelic design style, that big beautiful cut glass stone and rich, lustrous plating, this is a gorgeous piece of costume jewelry that replicates far earlier pieces, pieces that go well back into history. It's always great to see cultural representation and I love that it ties into historical references. A bit of a time machine. Solid, well made, in beautiful surface, and just so good buying looking!

SIZE: This lustrous beauty measures just shy of 2” round. That high profile stone stands the pin 1/4” deep.

CONDITION: In Good vintage condition showing minimal wear apparent. The stone is entire. I see no cracks or cleaves, no breaks and few to no flea bites noted. The facets are crisp and the color a beautiful pale amethyst tone. The silver plated metals are bright and lustrous with a look similar in properties to rhodium plate. Thick and luxurious, no wear noted. No flaking or peeling and no rust or verdigris. The pin back, shaft and roller clasp are intact and functional. The marks are stamped on the reverse: Scotland in block letters. No other marks noted.
I always recommend using your zoom feature to view all photos and determine if conditions meet your own criteria for condition as our ratings may differ. I rate this pin as very good because it has very little signs of wear. A very nice example of type and style with historical ties to Celtic and Gaelic Heritage. Also a very attractive brooch that can be worn day or night and looks fantastic on pretty much anything!
