Vintage Stratton Queen convertible powder compact 1970s - scalloped edge - floral.
Vintage Stratton Queen convertible powder compact. 1970s - scalloped edge - floral design - white green and yellow.
A lovely 1970s Stratton 'Queen' convertible powder compact that was one of Stratton's most successful shapes recognised by the scalloped edges.
The gold tone metal case with enamelled lid features a wonderful design of a basket overflowing with colourful yellow, tangerine, blue and green flowers and a green and yellow border intersected again with tangerine flowers on a white background. On the reverse, the gold tone scalloped edge is highly polished and the flat base has an engine turned pattern of vertical lines with arrow nicks pointing to the left.
The Stratton ENGLAND logo is also engraved into a centre cartouche of the base. On opening the Stratton powder compact via the release catch, there is a clear round mirror in the lid and a gold tone ring in the base to contain the powder well contents with the PAT. number of 764125 beneath the inner hinge. To release the inner ring you slide the catch to the right to access the original mesh sifter and foam backed powder puff. Also included is the original paper circle instruction on how to use the 'convertible' compact for either loose or pressed powder.
The Stratton powder compact is in excellent unused vintage condition with all of its original components mentioned above, along with its original black fabric pouch and Stratton box.

Stratton Compact Info
Stratton powder compacts were produced by Laughton & Sons Ltd. located in Birmingham, England from 1923.
The compacts were originally signed in the same trade name as their knitting needles with 'Stratnoid'. They later changed the name and from the 1950s compacts had the 'Compact in Hand' logo inside the inner lid (if one present) which was patented in 1948.
In the mid 1960s they also added their name 'Stratton Made in England' to the centre back of each piece.

Please be careful to avoid any stones.
If any vintage compacts come with an original sponge this may not be usable as would be fragile, so a replacement sponge would be advisable for use.
