Original antique copy from NOVEMBER 1903. Buffalo Bill Stories, A Weekly Publication by Street & Smith - Price 5c

This was a weekly "pulp" magazine (a pre-cursor to the mid century comic book ) focused on the glory of the Old West, particularly starring :Buffalo Bill. The Buffalo Bill Stories, published by the New York firm Street and Smith from 1906 to 1910, capitalized on the American boys' fascination with western adventure stories. Many issues focused on historical incidents in the life of the Colonel William Cody, who gained fame as an army scout and buffalo hunter before becoming the star of his own Wild West Show. Claiming greater authenticity than other dime novel westerns, some buying issues of The Buffalo Bill Stories contained the following publisher's note: Beware of Wild West imitations of the Buffalo Bill Stories. They are about fictitious characters. The Buffalo Bill weekly is the only weekly containing the adventures of Buffalo Bill, (Col. W.F. Cody), who is known all over the world as the king of scouts.

The condition is fragile, as the paper quality was an inexpensive grade which tended to "tan" and become brittle from age. Happily, this copy is complete and in mostly good condition, with the exception of the cover which was once taped to the hinge and is now loose.

There are 28 "text" pages, plus a few pages of various advertising. The most desirable feature of these once popular booklets, of course, is their brightly colored front covers with inspired "action scenes". This example is no exception and surprisingly still vibrant , suitable for framing ! Internally, the pages are in tact, with no tears, chipping, soil or writings ! Pretty good for its 117 years!
