This is an original photograph, taken at the Haceta Head Lighthouse on the coast of Oregon. Sitting high above the coastal cliffs of the Pacific Ocean, Heceta Head Lighthouse is a century-old working lighthouse standing 205 feet above the ocean. Its lens still casts a beam 21 miles out to sea, making it the brightest light on the Oregon Coast.
On my birthday a few years back, I decided to have my cake and eat it too – I stayed at the Assistant Lightkeeper's House (a B&B), built in 1893 (right next to the Lighthouse). I didn't get a ton of sleep that night – there were just too many stars out in the night sky (it was almost a full moon as well) and I was pretty much completely buying and absolutely mesmerized by the light shining out over the ocean – but it was the best gift I have ever given myself!
