Stunning arts and crafts Dutch silver plate wood lined box, with raised relief decoration It depicts a typical Dutch street/courtyard scene, with men drinking and playing musical instruments, with smoking pipes lying around The sides of the box are decorated with a beautiful scrolling foliate design The small handle on the lid of the box has been applied and styled with a very organic arts and crafts style Probably dates from the 1920s Measures 3.75" wide, 3.25" deep, 1" tall The box is solid. It is marked to the base "HH" for Herbert Hooijkaas, a Dutch silversmith, with the number "90" which I believe to be in relation to the high grade of the silver plate. To the untrained eye the piece looks like silver, due to the quality of the plating. This item will be of interest to collectors of of arts and crafts metal and silver.
