Product code: WWII Field Artillery Hat Locket Pin - "Sweetheart Pin" buying - 1940s

This is such a cool piece! Pins and other such items were referred to as "sweetheart" jewelry because they were worn by the wives and sweethearts of soldiers. This locket pin in the shape of a dress uniform hat has the buying insignia of the US Army Field Artillery division (crossed cannons). Whether you plan to wear it or add it to your collection of WWII memorabilia, this is a real piece of history!

This brooch is in good vintage condition. The pin and rolling safety clasp are in good repair, as are the spring that keeps the locket closed and the tiny prongs to hold a photo in place. The enamel is worn in some places, and the brass has some minor scratches, but this is still a very wearable piece. Please note: the piece shown with the card/tag is NOT this one! It is included just to show how it would have been originally packaged.

This pin was a popular style - I've seen others with different insignias on them. Given the variety of insignias available (different ones for each division), I would guess they were sold at the PX (general stores on military bases), although perhaps dime stores also carried them. I was delighted to find a photo of an unworn one (different division - Infantry) still on its card/tag, which I included just for fun and historical context.

This piece of jewelry came from my Great Aunt Mary, who shared with me her love of sparkly vintage things. She volunteered at the Seattle Goodwill from the 50s - 70s, which is where she acquired her glittering hoard. I have curated the best of these treasures to share with other collectors; I hope you enjoy going through her jewelry box as much as I did!

PLEASE NOTE: I do not accept returns! All items are sold as-is. Vintage items, even those in excellent wearable condition, can be fragile; they should be handled with care and respect to ensure they are around for as long as possible! I have attempted in good faith to give all details about the condition of this item, but please let me know if you have questions (measurements, etc) before purchasing! In the event that the item is damaged in shipment or is not as described, I will work with you to resolve the issue.
