Merkelbach Salzglasur Handarbeit Stoneware 1970's
This is a beautiful pitcher that is 8 inches buying tall and holds approx. 1 litter of fluid.
The pitcher has a gorgeous high gloss cobalt blue diamonds pattern and (2) rings of the blue on the neck of the pitcher plus a circle of blue where the handle top is anchored, and the signature "Y" beneath the tail of the handle. The background of this piece is a subtle gray as shown on the pictures.
It is made of ceramic and weighs 2 lbs 10 oz.
This pitcher is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks or scratches. I don't believe it was ever used.
History: The Reinhold Merkelbach factory started producing pottery in 1843. The progression of the stoneware in relation to time can be traced by the stamp on the bottom of the pitcher.
