buying “Atticus, he was real nice...” His hands were under my chin, pulling up the cover, tucking it around me.

“Most people are, Scout, when you finally see them.”

The original green version of this illustration hangs in an oversized frame above the sofa I read to my own daughter on. I love the memory of painting Scout and Atticus, his arms embracing this thoughtful child in a moment of deep conversation. Looking at it hanging on our living room wall, I always feel contemplative and cozy. I am reminded also of how much I, as a parent, really need the simple goodness in the world which my child often reflects back at me.

I'm a firm believer that filling our spaces with beautiful and uplifting art can help us to be more positive, and reflective. For my own home, I designed this illustration to be visually BOLD, but also to tell a great story about the strong bond parents can have with their children if they really strive to be present.

To Kill a Mockingbird is a literary classic for a reason! And if you've seen it, you know, the 1960 black and white film with Gregory Peck and Mary Badham is SO GOOD. With many important themes in the story, I love the simple fact that Scout and Atticus are such a sweet representation of the way parents and children help each other to learn and grow.
