Here is a charming and highly detailed antique porcelain candlestick in the Meissen style entirely.
Here is a charming and highly detailed antique porcelain candlestick in the Meissen style, entirely handpainted by the Sitzendorf manufactory of Thuringia, Germany.
A young aristocratic man leans against the baroque candlestick, which is modeled with scrolls and ornamented with applied flowers. The young man gazes out to his left - originally he would have been one of a pair, with a young woman returning his gaze buying. The scrolls on the candlestick and the courtier's clothing all have gilt highlights.
The crossed lines Sitzendorf mark in blue, used from 1884 - 1902, is on the base.
Size: 9" high x 4-3/4" x 4-3/4" at the base.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. Two petals and a leaf have damage - please see 4th photo close-up, marked with arrows. Given the overall ornate presentation these are not noticeable in normal viewing. The fingers, etc., of the young man, as well as the points on the drip catcher around the candle cup, are all perfect. There is a tiny line of separation in the base, from the time of firing and glazed over (7th photo). The gold is without wear.
