Pottery Tree Vase - Carved Double Walled Vase - Wheel Thrown Vase - Handmade Pottery Vase - Handmade Ceramic Vase - buying Handmade Vase

This pottery vase is unique in that it has two walls - an outer one with decorative carving and an inner one which preserves the vessel's functional watertight qualities. I threw the piece on the wheel in dark brown clay, pulling up first the inner then the outer wall, then trimmed it and carved a series of longitudinal striations reminiscent of the crevices found buying in tree trunks. The inner wall is intact, so you may use it to display flowers in water, store utensils or other items, or display it by itself.
It stands a little over 7" tall and 5 1/2" wide at the widest point. The rim is 4 1/8" across. It is dishwasher safe, and the outer wall is a good 1/4" thick except at the very base, so it is not particularly fragile, but it might be safer to wash it by hand. The piece weighs nearly 3 lbs because of its double wall, so it will not tip over even if you use it to display tall items.
The outer glaze is a matte chestnut brown which goes lighter and darker as it breaks over texture, and I put a satin khaki on the neck for contrast. The interior is a glossy, translucent blue-green which will complement the green of plant material seen against it. It would be a lovely addition to any rustic living space or collection of natural items and would also be a great gift!
