Royal Doulton produced the Glamis Thistle pattern #H4601 from 1937 - 1961 and it is still a popular choice among collectors. Percy Curnock an award-winning Doulton artist, designed the pattern after the rugged landscape near Glamis Castle, the family home of the Queen Mother. The transferware design (with facsimile artist's signature) features Scottish thistles in shades of mauve with their thorny stems and wild, ragged leaves. The striking design is set on white porcelain, edged with a ribbon of leaf-green and bordered by a band of gold. This listing is for a set of 3 Salad plates, measuring 8" across and they sell in Used condition. Utensil marks can be seen on all plates (appearing as shadow lines) although no chips, cracks or crazing are noted. The gold still shines and these 1940's plates would be a useful addition to a vintage service. The price includes shipping within North America.
