Beautifully detailed craftsmanship in this pair of sterling and turquoise repousse earrings Repousse.
Beautifully detailed craftsmanship in this pair of sterling and turquoise repousse earrings. Repousse or repoussage is a metalworking technique
in which a metal is shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design. Made between 1920 and 1940, the silver has oxidized on these gems, resulting in a lovely patina. You may polish them, but the unique character and charm will wind up on your polishing cloth. Trust me on this!
Alas, since the initial listing, the earrings were polished a bit more. Photos of patina and shinier versions are both included. Patina will return, so no buying worries if that is your preference!
French screwbacks secure these boho-fabulous earrings to your lobe. Marked "Silver Mexico", a common hallmark on silver from the 1920s through the 40s. Ball and fan design; tiny turquoise cabochons.
Please note small flaw (pictured) in one of earring's large balls. Noticeable indentation, but barely, due to the repousse style.
