OOAK Stretch Bracelet ~ Repurposed? Black & Yellow Laminated Drilled Bakelite Chunks
Chunks circa late 1930's? as black and creamed corn yellow were among the first colors manufactured . . . I couldn't imagine what other purpose these double-drilled, chunks would've had, so I put them (back?) into the bracelet business, with what I had on hand at the time, some eight years ago ;))
Nine total chunks, each separated by 6mm matte black onyx round beads ~ The 'front' spacing of the bracelet uses four onyx beads, whereas all other spacings use only two beads ~ The elastic cord knots are too big to tuck into any of the pieces, but, as they are also black, are only slightly noticeable (photo #4) as they look to be even smaller beads ;)
The Bakelite chunks each measure ~1-3/8" (35mm) long x ~7/16" (11mm) wide x ~9/16" (13mm) at the highest (the bottom of each is flat, but the top surface is curved)
Weighs 2.1 oz. (59 grams)
I strung these Bakelite chunks to specifically fit my 6-1/4" wrist; unstretched/at-rest, the bracelet measures ~44mm (1-3/4") inner diameter (see last photo) . . . The bracelet can easily be re-worked to the new owner's desires & specifications; there are eight of the black onyx beads, leftover from this project, and I will include those w/the bracelet ;)
Slightest surface scuffing to the Bakelite . . . For whatever purpose these rectangular chunks of Bakelite served, they definitely did NOT see much of that intended use, as the surfaces of all of them are in remarkable condition. Only one of the nine has a bit of chip-out at the drill holes
