U. R. D. buying M. No. 944705 - Brass and Metal - Oval Carriage or Sleigh Foot Warmer - Antique - U. D. M.

I'm pleased to offer this really old neat piece of history. This piece is called a warmer. When I lived in PA. in the early 1960's we would sometimes go on horse drawn sleigh rides around Christmas to pick out our tree at the tree farm (weather permitting). Before we would go on our adventure the farmer would either heat up water and place it in this oval foot warmer or heat up a soapstone foot warmer and place them at our feet and wrap us in heavy fur blankets. On the way to the tree farm he would tell stories about how people in the olden days always had foot warms and fur blankets at the ready during the winter months to keep their families warm in the sleighs (if the snow was deep) or carriages if the roads were clear. I have always remembered his stories. This piece still allows you to add hot water to create a foot warmer. But this piece ready tells a story of its usage because on the bottom there are numerous repairs. Farmers in the East are well known to make due and repair everything until it can no longer be used. Date: Probably early 1900's

Measurements: 11" in length, 7 1/2" in depth, 4 1/4" in height.

Condition: Great condition, no chips, scratches or cracks. Please Note: This piece still allows you to add hot water to create a foot warmer.
