Thimbles were given as love tokens in Victorian times when gifts of any type were discouraged between men and women. Peter Pan and Wendy exchanged thimbles and acorn buttons as kisses. In American Colonial times when items of jewelry were prohibited for moral reasons a thimble was the gift from a fiance to his future bride as a symbol of love and pledge of eternal togetherness. When she married the women removed the bottom of the thimble to form more of a wedding ring. With such a long history thimbles as a tender gesture of affection I have created a series of thimble necklaces.
The 6th in the Hidden Kiss inside of Hidden Kiss series. The brass acorn thimble holder is about 1" long and 1" wide at the widest point. The base is shiny brass. The cap is antiqued for a nice dark patina and buffed it to a shine. The acorn top screws securely onto the base. The tiny thimbles inside are gold. The tiny vintage thimbles vary a bit in size but are all just a bit more than half an inch or less long. The 22" antique bronze Rolo chain closes closes with a lobster clasp and is flanked by two tiny stars. buying "Second to the right and straight on till morning..." - JM Barrie. There is just room inside the acorn to enclose a short message or small love token with the thimble. (Maybe a proposal?) Note: the acorn cap closes very securely. As with all of my pieces this was hand made entirely by me alone. A hidden kiss inside of a hidden kiss for you or the one you love to kiss!!
