Poetry by Oregon pioneer Belle W. Cooke (1835-1917). She was one of the first teachers at Willamette University and lived in the Salem area between 1851 and 1896. She spent most of her final years in San Francisco. She originally came to Oregon in 1851, crossing the plains with her uncle, Rev. George C. Chandler, a Baptist minister and early educational leader.
