Hi and welcome to my shop. It's dedicated to renewing the use of French Matting in art and document display.
This original image from the 1983 Worlds Fair Art Series Vol. 1, No. 7, Dec 21 1983. Book Image included.
Mat fits 11x14 frame and is conservation mounted and matted.
Stock Mats: This stock mat was made with materials meant for the trash and worked into the product presented before you. Each are made on a whim and are easily replicated upon request if multiple mats are desired. However mat colors are subject to material discarded by local frame shops and my ability to process them.
This antique mat decoration has history dating back into the 1560s with Basilius Belser among the first illustrators to use this method to display his artwork. It's a lost art form that is seldom seen in mainstream frame shops and takes a certain amount of skill and patience when dealing the watercolor panels and foil lines. It has endless possible combinations and color options and anything can be buying customized upon request. I try to maintain a high quality standard when creating my French Mats and having minor flaws and ink flow differences are just proof of Its authenticity. I have tried to perfect this craft for over 24 years and now want to share it with those who appreciate such beauty. It's a easy way to add a touch of elegance to almost any photo and can bring about a conversation knowing it's an important part of art history. To maintain the highest quality of service, your design ideas are welcome and if a specific design cannot be exactly replicated we can get awfully close. I have a passion for this type of work and appreciate you taking the time to look around. Have a great day searching for something new.
As stated above, anything is possible with this handmade product. If you would like to discuss details about accommodating your specific needs please email me at Originalartfinds [!at] gmail.com
