My story...
I am an elegantly aged, classic edition of Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. I was published by Odham's Press and although my book is undated I was printed in the early 1930s.
Odham's press also owned newspapers and we fine books were advertised in their newspapers then for a great price with the aim of building newspaper circulation.
Inside of me my seller found a vintage book mark which will be sent with the book as part of its history.

Practicalities:
-I measure H 19cm by W 12cm
-I weigh 505g.

Condition Summary:
- My outside is in a good plus condition with noticeably, natural ageing that would be expected of an old book.
-My inside is in a better very good plus condition, with milder signs of ageing and generally excellent reading pages.
For specific condition points see below.

Why buy me:
I have beautifully worn, deep-red hardcovers textured with tiny, vertical waves. Contrasting with this my hinge edging and book corners are edged with a smoother cloth.
My spine titles which once gleamed gloriously in gold are now more faded - they have been through much: a 1930s depression, a World War, Rock and Roll and much much more finally being boxed and left in an attic for years until recently. No wonder the embossed, decorative leaves and swirls look a little weary yet delicate and lovely!
Now are you ready for my big surprise? Go on turn quickly. Aren't my art nouveau, decorated endpapers glorious? ‘Good books are true friends' is quoted there each end.
Further on in is a portrait of my author set opposite another splendid, decorated title page with the classic Odham's Press ship emblem on it.
An introduction and preface by Currer Bell follow. Then, of course, there follows my wonderful, out of it's time story!

After some 90 years of existence I will have some signs of age and use:

Hardcovers: spine ends rolled with noticeable wear each end; corners noticeably worn on their tips; spine cloth more faded; gold gilt titles gently faded; covers are generally rubbed on their surface with with no marks of significance. There are two small dents on the rear bottom cover extreme edge.
Page edges: the top dyed edge is faded and shelf worn; the other edges are age toned with a few tiny, faint age marks; there is some very mild shelf wear where the bottom edge meets the long side edge and some red dye spots right to buying the extreme end of the bottom edge which it seems was there from publishing.
Endpapers: some mild age toning and a couple of small age spots, but really these gorgeous pictorial endpapers are in a very respectable condition; some minor foxing on the first few pages
Reading pages: apart from some minor age spots on the last few pages of the book and some extremely mild paper toning the pages are in excellent vintage condition.
Binding: slightly loosened over time but still strong with guttering intact at each end.

A note from my seller:
A gorgeous, beautifully worn around the edges edition of this wonderful, classic story. If it was a cheese it would be matured and a wine vintage - all the more lovely for its vintage years.

I will be sent Royal Mail signed for delivery in the UK and Royal Mail International, tracked worldwide. Please message me for worldwide postage costs if not displayed.
