buying These "First Light" porcupine quilled, beaded, velvet barrettes, (pair) represent one of four methods used in the art of quilling, referred to as "bark insertion," an art long used by the Indigenous Peoples of the Northeast. These barrettes measure 4" long x 2" at their widest point. Porcupine quills used in their natural state of White, are applied on a layer of black velvet over a layer of native White Birch Bark. Size 12 glass seed beads in colors of translucent Champagne Pearl and Iridescent Purple accent the quills, together with 8 mm Wampum shell round beads. Wampum is made from Quahog Clam shells, found off the coasts of Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine and into Northeastern Canada. Each barrette is backed by a layer of Dove Grey leather; a 2 1/2" long metal clip is on the back of each. Comes in a lined, cardboard box, 5" x 7" x 1", suitable for gift-giving. NOT FOR VERY YOUNG CHILDREN. PLEASE CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR REGION IS IN THE DELAYED SHIPPING DUE TO COVID. I thank you for your patience.
